This segment of the Ozark Trail runs for 48 miles. The northernmost 7.5 miles pass through the Huzzah Conservation Area and are designated "Hiking Only." Mountain bikes aren't allowed on the trail until the Lower Narrows Trailhead. Since this trailhead can be difficult to find most people start at the Bass River Resort 5 miles further on. The trail here uses about a mile of gravel road in an eastward direction before turning back into the woods. This segment also uses the western half of the Berryman Trail on the way to its southern terminus at the Hazel Creek Trailhead and Campground.
Travel east from Steelville on Hwy 8 approximately 10.5 miles. Turn left on Butts Rd. and follow to the Bass River Resort.
